Awarding process
The expert commission reviews all applications and selects the most convincing projects based on their professional judgement. All applicants will be informed within 12 weeks of the application deadline whether their projects have been accepted and what place the project has on the prioritisation list.
Project contract
WeReforest takes stock at the end of the calendar year. Depending on the amount of donations, applicants will be informed whether or not their project can be financed, based on project ranking. In the event of approval by WeReforest, the project contract is concluded between WeReforest and the forest owner.
"I think it's good [...] that WeReforest is getting involved in the national task of reforesting the countless areas affected by disasters. This commitment makes it possible to provide unbureaucratic support for many dedicated forest owners in reforestation with tree species that are as climate-stable as possible. I was happy to take on the task of advising the expert committee on choosing from the large number of applications."
Dr Eberhard Piest, Head of the Forestry Operations of the Family of the Count of Spee
"I am very happy to support WeReforest because reforestation deserves broad social support that goes beyond official processes. Reforestation of the disaster areas is aimed at preserving the forests and therefore a wide range of functions. The future use of wood is one of them. Reforestation must be measured against the local conditions as well as against the risks of runaway climate change. That requires creativity and craftsmanship. That's why I want to use my 26 years of professional experience in my district!
Martin Janner, District Supervisor in the municipal forest, 2023 Forester of the Year, author of the book "The Forest of the Future"
"We're currently experiencing how climate change is affecting our forest ecosystems with breathtaking intensity. In this situation, we need every good idea. And forest owners need all the help they can get. I hope that WeReforest can achieve this combination in selected projects."
Dr Chris Freise, Director of the Schleswig-Holstein State Forestry Department
"In recent years, climate change has led to large areas of forest being devastated by calamities, and this has led to rethinking in the management of forests and the choice of tree species. In the private forest sector in particular, this has presented many forest owners with planning and financial problems that are difficult to solve and that now need to be addressed. WeReforest makes it easy to obtain funding for reforestation and forest conversion projects, which are urgently needed for the future."
Marco Braun, Regional Advisor in the forestry and sales field service at FriedWald GmbH
'Not only in North Rhine-Westphalia, but now also throughout Germany, many forest owners must make enormous efforts to restore their disaster areas to forest in the coming years and decades. WeReforest's uncomplicated support for forest owners in the development of climate-adapted mixed forests that are suitable for the location is a great help for the future of our forests. I'm very happy to support this project."
Heidrun Buß-Schöne, Managing Director, North Rhine-Westphalia Association of Forest Farmers
