The DLG Committee for Animal Fairness
The new DLG programme promotes animal-friendly husbandry of dairy cows. It contains requirements for space availability, contact with the outdoor climate, high-quality feed, employment material and health care and many other important requirements for the management of animal-friendly husbandry. The nationwide Fokus Tierwohl network was founded to sustainably strengthen livestock farmers in Germany and support them in prioritising animal welfare, environmental protection, production quality and market orientation. The aim of the joint project is to improve the transfer of knowledge into practice in order to make pig, poultry and cattle farms in Germany fit for the future in terms of animal welfare, environmentally friendly and sustainable livestock farming.
The "Animal Welfare Award" is presented by the DLG together with the bpt (Bundesverband praktizierender Tierärzte e. V. - German Federal Association of Practising Veterinarians). The prerequisite is winning a gold or silver medal in the "EuroTier Innovation Award" competition for a product that particularly fulfils the requirements for a higher animal welfare standard.
