From 10 to 13 November 2026, this B2B platform designed by the DLG (German Agricultural Society) will present a comprehensive technical program with four dedicated theme days as part of EuroTier at the exhibition grounds in Hanover, Germany. Addressing key questions shaping future agri‑food systems and highlighting relevant innovation in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), the program explores mushroom cultivation, aquaculture, insect production and “retail & innovation”. Each theme day offers inspiration, specialist knowledge, and cross‑sector networking opportunities. The Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Show complements EuroTier, the world’s leading trade fair for professional animal farming and livestock management, as well as the parallel EnergyDecentral, the leading international platform for decentralised energy supply. Together, the three events drive new business models and future‑ready agri‑food value chains.

Mushroom production as a scalable indoor system

Mushrooms are among the most dynamic crops in indoor farming. They offer predictable, scalable and economically attractive production opportunities, from edible mushrooms to mycelium‑based applications. This theme day explores the entire value chain: production systems, process management, substrates, suitable mushroom species, and marketing and sales. Special attention is given to container solutions, warehouse and modular systems, as well as the full production cycle from substrate preparation to fruiting. The program highlights the strong influence of climate control, energy use, hygiene and automation on economic viability and process stability. Robotics that improve occupational safety, efficiency and quality  is a key feature. The programme also offers guidance on mushroom varieties, advisory services and market opportunities from fresh produce to mycelium‑based innovations.

Aquaculture under one roof: Fish, shrimp and algae

Aquatic indoor systems are among the most complex developments in inhouse farming. Recirculating aquaculture systems and photobioreactors enable resource‑efficient production using recirculated water, precise feeding and controlled conditions.

This theme day showcases the diversity of these systems while bringing operators together. A program highlight is the “Salmon Story by Fjord & Farm”, offering insights into the evolution, transformation and modern indoor production approaches.

Further sessions focus on shrimp farming, hatchery production, feeding concepts and the growing demand for fresh produce from controlled systems. Algae specialists demonstrate how high‑value biomass is produced from light and CO2, addressing questions such as “algae on the farm” and retail expectations. Integrated systems and aquaponics round off the day before the “Aquatic Happy Hour”, featuring tastings of indoor‑grown seafood.

Insects are gaining significance as a protein source, as converters of agricultural by‑products, and as key components in resilient feed and food systems.

This theme day demonstrates how businesses can harness opportunities,  focusing on modern feeding strategies, future food applications, European market opportunities, and technologies transferring research into practice.

The program also covers the EU regulatory framework for novel food, permitted substrates, species, regulations, licensing requirements, and experiences in licensing processes, operational models and communication with regulatory authorities. Tastings, expert dialogues and deep‑dive sessions show how insects are already integrated into value chains and where new opportunities are emerging.

Retail & Innovation: Shaping the future of food

The closing day examines how sustainable food and technical innovations can achieve visibility and commercial success at the point of sale.

Alternative proteins, including cultivated meat, precision fermentation products, insects and vertical‑farming produce, face particular market challenges, from price perception to consumer behaviour. Discussions center on how to increase reach and acceptance, how start‑ups can be supported, and which framework conditions are needed for a credible, sustainable and innovation‑friendly food system.

Retailers, industry, and consumers play a key role in shaping these developments. The theme day invites all stakeholders to help build a forward‑looking, sustainable and innovation‑driven food ecosystem.
