The DLG quality test for ice cream is made up of two parts:
- the sensory test – experts assess the products submitted for taste, appearance and texture;
- the laboratory test – chemical-physical and microbiological tests in the laboratory additionally back up the findings. All products are examined in the laboratory for germ counts, fat content and presence of coliform (microbiological tests).
All the test components contribute to the assessment score that also forms the basis for granting an award.
Depending on the number of scores achieved, the ice creams are awarded DLG Medals in Bronze, Silver or Gold.
