Wine testing at the German Agricultural Society (DLG)
The DLG wine awards is the only official national wine award-scheme in Germany that include wines from all the wine-producing counties in Germany. The award-scheme is exclusively open to German wines and those who enter must have previously passed a number of regional tests. The award-scheme takes place twice a year in Germany and the wines undergo numerous blind tests that are carried out by experts from the German Agricultural Society. At the end of the tests, points are added up and depending on the score, companies obtain bronze, silver or gold.
The wines that achieve maximum scores undergo additional sensory perception tests in which they compete against each other. A Gold award with distinction is given to the winners. For a list of the 2005 award-winners in German, please [click here].
The DLG does not just test wines, it also tests vineyards. These comprehensive tests include quality measurements ranging from evaluation of the soil to viniculture and customer service. Please visit www.wein.de which contains list of recommended vineyards
