Agrotech-Agropars exhibition in Iran starts today

Iran’s Agrotech-Agropars exhibition, which got underway today at Shiraz in the southern province of Fars, was preceded by a gathering that brought together German manufacturers with Iranian distributors and industry experts.

The meeting, which was organized by DLG and VDMA, was a networking event aimed at promoting future German-Iranian partnerships. A positive reaction from those attending the event suggested high expectations for trade between the two countries in the future.

With nearly 80 million inhabitants and a GDP of US$394 million in 2015, Iran is already an important market for the European agricultural machinery industry, but following the recent nuclear framework agreement, and the subsequent lifting of trade sanctions, a rapid increase in foreign trade is expected.

The Iranian Ministry of Agriculture has also committed to significant subsidies for the purchase of innovative technology and investment in irrigation systems. Added to this, the country has built up a considerable backlog in demand for foreign investment in recent decades, and is keen to adopt modern techniques and technologies.

Agrotech-Agropars is the largest and most important agricultural fair in Iran. Now in its 12th year, the event takes place at the Fars International Exhibition Center, in the province’s capital, Shiraz, from April 26 to 29, 2016.

The modern exhibition center offers 17,000 square metres of exhibition space in five halls, and a further 3,000 square meters outside. The 2015 fair saw 248 exhibitors present their products, equipment and services to about 60,000 visitors.
